Nu Cine Copan Debuts Brazil’s First Acoustically Transparent 8K HDR Cinema LED Screen Featuring Tricorne Premium LED Technology
BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 30, 2026 — GDC Technology Limited (“GDC”), a leading global provider of digital cinema solutions, announced today that it has been selected to supply Brazil’s first native 8K-resolution, acoustically transparent HDR cinema LED screen. Powered by Tricorne Premium LED technology, the new screen will be installed at Nu Cine Copan in São Paulo ahead of the cinema’s grand reopening. The imminent installation shall mark the world’s first acoustically transparent native 8K LED screen specifically designed for a Premium Large Format (PLF) cinema auditorium.
Scheduled to open in July 2027, Nu Cine Copan is undergoing restoration as a 440-seat cinema that will combine the architectural heritage of the historic Copan Building with next-generation cinema technology. The centerpiece of the renovation will be a 20-meter curved Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen, featuring native 8K resolution, a 2.5 mm pixel pitch and DCI-compliant HDR, designed to deliver exceptional image quality, contrast, color accuracy and visual detail.
Unlike conventional cinema LED displays, which typically require loudspeakers to be positioned above, below, or around the screen, the acoustically transparent Tricorne Premium LED screen allows loudspeakers to be positioned directly behind the LED screen. This configuration preserves the traditional cinema sound system layout while enabling precise localization of dialogue and sound effects to their corresponding on-screen action, delivering a more natural and immersive audiovisual experience.
Audiences can experience the image-quality advantages of direct-view LED—including high brightness, deep blacks, high contrast, rich color and consistent image quality—without altering the familiar behind-the-screen audio experience.
A New Chapter for a São Paulo Icon: Nu Cine Copan
Located within São Paulo’s iconic Copan Building, Nu Cine Copan is embarking on a new chapter nearly four decades after the cinema’s closure. Originally opened in 1970, Cine Copan became a landmark in downtown São Paulo, renowned for its impressive scale, distinctive architecture and luxurious design.
Designed to represent the future of cinema in Brazil, Nu Cine Copan will unite landmark architecture, Tricorne Premium DCI-compliant HDR LED presentation technology and a dynamic cultural environment. The historic foyer, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, will be revitalized and integrated with the cinema, creating approximately 1,500 square meters of interconnected cultural and social space within a larger entertainment complex featuring dining, a bar, retail outlets, conference facilities and event spaces. Nu Cine Copan is facilitated by project consultant Ricardo Laporta of Neolux Cinema.
