India Makes Cinema History with First Acoustically Transparent LED Screen and DTS:X Audio Upgrade at Vettri Theatres, Chennai

Vettri upgrades two auditoriums with solutions supplied by GDC—featuring Tricorne Premium LED at Screen VOLT and DTS:X for IAB immersive audio at Screen Krish, delivering an unprecedented sight-and-sound experience for Chennai audiences

CHENNAI, India, August 18, 2026 — GDC Technology Limited (“GDC”), a leading global provider of digital cinema solutions, today announced that Vettri Theatres in Chromepet, Chennai, has upgraded two of its auditoriums powered by GDC cinema technologies. The project includes India’s first acoustically transparent cinema LED screen, installed at Screen VOLT and launched on August 16, 2026, as well as GDC immersive audio processor featuring DTS:X for IAB immersive audio at Screen Krish.

Two Auditoriums Upgraded with GDC Cinema Technologies

Vettri Theatres operates three auditoriums with a total of 1,000 seats. In 2026, two of its auditoriums underwent major upgrades with the latest immersive cinema technologies. The 200-seat VOLT now features India’s first acoustically transparent Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen—a landmark achievement for the country’s exhibition sector. Meanwhile, the 100-seat Krish has been equipped with DTS:X for IAB immersive audio and pure RGB laser projection, delivering a richly layered, spatially precise soundscape and stunning visual clarity.

India’s First Acoustically Transparent Cinema LED Screen

The upgraded VOLT auditorium features an acoustically transparent, ultra-fine 3.3mm pixel pitch, Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen, powered by GDC’s advanced LED media server—the same technology that powers approximately 70% of the world’s cinema LED displays. Tricorne Premium LED features an acoustically transparent design that redefines the integration of sight and sound. By enabling cinema-grade loudspeakers to be positioned directly behind the LED surface, the display delivers precise, localized audio that locks seamlessly with on-screen action. This engineering milestone allows audiences to experience the full vibrancy, uniform brightness, super-high contrast, and color accuracy of direct-view LED technology—while enjoying sound that feels as natural, immersive, and spatially authentic as the visuals themselves. Direct-view LED ensures that every seat in the house enjoys a consistently high-quality visual presentation—a level of performance that legacy projector-and-silver-screen systems simply cannot duplicate.

The installation marks another milestone for Tricorne Premium LED in South Asia. South Asia’s first Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen opened at Majestic Cineplex in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in May 2026. Globally, Tricorne Premium LED has also been selected for three landmark projects: CINEMAGNUM’s planned world’s largest cinema LED screen in Nuremberg, Germany measuring more than 30 meters wide alongside two APEX screens for Australia’s top exhibitor, HOYTS: a 25-meter-wide installation at Karrinyup and a 21-meter-wide installation at Melbourne Central.

A Collaboration Built on Technology and Trust

The investment reflects Vettri’s passion for adopting best-in-class cinema technologies to craft truly immersive moviegoing experiences for its customers. Vettri selected Tricorne for the project based on a long-standing relationship with the GDC India team and unwavering confidence in the team’s technical expertise and proven ability to deliver a fully integrated, acoustically transparent cinema LED solution, paired with a DTS:X immersive audio solution.

“Since CineAsia in 2014, GDC and I have often discussed the possibilities of a business collaboration between Vettri and GDC. After more than a decade of conversations, that opportunity finally came together through my interest in an acoustically transparent LED solution,” said Rakesh Gowthaman, proprietor of Vettri Theatres. “What made this collaboration even more exciting was the opportunity to bring DTS:X for IAB immersive audio to Krish, allowing us to create two completely different technology-driven cinema experiences in the specialty auditoriums.”

“I have been particularly delighted to work with the GDC technical team. They are extremely technically sound, have tremendous clarity in whatever they undertake, and bring a very hands-on approach to every aspect of the project,” Gowthaman added. “It has been a pleasure finally turning years of conversations into a real collaboration. I’m looking forward to building a much bigger and more exciting future together with GDC.”

“Rakesh has a strong understanding of cinema technology and has always been committed to bringing the best immersive cinematic experience to his patrons,” said Sachin Shetty, Executive Director of EMEA and Country Head, GDC India. “After many years of discussions, the technology is finally ripe for a significant upgrade to Vettri Theatres. The installation of India’s first acoustically transparent Tricorne Premium LED cinema screen at VOLT, together with DTS:X for IAB immersive audio at Krish, reflects our shared commitment to delivering innovative cinema experiences.”

GDC Technology Surpasses 50 DTS:X for IAB Screens Across South Asia as the IAB standard Accelerates Immersive Audio Adoption

50 DTS:X for IAB Screens Across South Asia

MUMBAI, India, August 18, 2026 — GDC Technology Limited (“GDC”), a leading global provider of digital cinema solutions, today announced the completion of 50 DTS:X for IAB immersive audio screens across South Asia, spanning India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The milestone underscores the accelerating adoption of DTS:X immersive audio in the region — driven in large part by the interoperability of the SMPTE ST 2098-2 Immersive Audio Bitstream (IAB) standard.

For years, the greatest barrier to immersive audio adoption was content availability. Competing proprietary formats required studios to produce separate mixes and separate Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs) for each sound system, leaving many exhibitors — particularly in high-growth, price-sensitive markets — hesitant to invest. The IAB standard has removed that barrier. A single interoperable IAB DCP can now play back across all compliant immersive sound systems worldwide, giving DTS:X for IAB theatres access to a steadily expanding slate of immersive titles, exactly as filmmakers intended.

“The economics of immersive audio have fundamentally changed,” said Pranay Kumar, CTO of GDC Technology. “With one audio mix and a common DCP serving every IAB-compliant screen, content is no longer the question exhibitors ask before investing in immersive sound. The question now is simply how soon they can offer it to their audiences. Reaching 50 DTS:X for IAB screens across India, Nepal and Sri Lanka shows what happens when a global standard meets markets with an extraordinary appetite for premium cinema experiences.”

These DTS:X for IAB screens are powered by the GDC SR-1000 Standalone Integrated Media Block (IMB) with built-in DTS:X for IAB rendering, paired with the AIB-3000 cinema audio processor. The combination delivers object-based immersive audio with precise sound system calibration and enhanced bass management, at a total cost of ownership that makes immersive sound viable for auditoriums of every size — a decisive factor in South Asia’s diverse exhibition landscape.

Leading exhibitors across the region have adopted the solution, including PVR INOX, Vettri Theatres, Jaithra Cinemas, Shenoy Cinemas, QFX Cinemas, Majestic Cineplex and iNi Cinemas. GDC Technology India, in collaboration with its partners, has been instrumental in bringing DTS:X for IAB to screens across the subcontinent by ensuring its deployment and integration services.

“The adoption of DTS:X for IAB across South Asia reflects the growing momentum of the IAB standard and our shared commitment with GDC Technology to bring immersive cinema experiences to more audiences worldwide,” said Sven Mevissen, Senior Director Content and Partnerships, DTS, Inc.

The milestone also coincides with the 10th anniversary of GDC Technology’s partnership with DTS. Earlier this year, GDC introduced the AIB-4000, its next-generation 64-channel cinema audio processor supporting DTS:X for IAB, at CinemaCon 2026.

South Asia’s cinema market — home to the world’s highest-volume film industries and some of its most passionate moviegoing audiences — represents a significant growth frontier for premium formats. With the content pipeline secured by the IAB standard and a proven, cost-effective technology platform in place, GDC expects the pace of DTS:X for IAB adoption across the region to continue to accelerate.

CINEMAGNUM to Install World’s Largest
30m-wide Cinema LED Screen with Tricorne Premium LED

CINEMAGNUM is a massive, premium auditorium at CINECITTA’ in Nuremberg, Germany  one of Europe’s largest and most successful multiplexes

NÜRNBERG, GERMANY July 6, 2026 – GDC Technology (GDC), a global leader in digital cinema solutions, today announced it has been selected to supply the world’s largest cinema LED screen for installation at CINEMAGNUM, the flagship auditorium of Nuremberg, Germany’s CINECITTA’ multiplex.

Measuring 30 meters wide by 16 meters high, the screen will claim the title of the world’s largest LED cinema display upon its completion in fall 2026. The installation marks a significant milestone for both GDC and the European cinema industry, cementing CINEMAGNUM’s status as the world’s most technologically advanced exhibition venue.

Breathtaking Visual and Uncompromising Audio Performance

The installation features cutting-edge Tricorne Premium LED technology, delivering:

  • 8K+native resolution – ensuring breathtaking clarity and detail, even on a 30-meter-wide canvas
  • Asignature curved screen – engineered to optimize viewing angles and immersion across the entire auditorium
  • Awall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling footprint – eliminating visual boundaries for a fully engulfing experience
  • Micro-perforated, acoustically transparent LED panels – allowing cinema-grade audio to pass directly through the screen without compromising visual density or HDR performance

“Perfect sound-from-picture synchronization and a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling canvas have always been the holy grail of LED cinema,” said Man Nang CHONG, GDC Technology’s founder and CEO. “Tricorne Premium LED’s proprietary micro-perforated technology finally achieves both – delivering a fully immersive visual experience without sacrificing a single decibel of audio fidelity. At CINEMAGNUM, audiences will experience HDR visuals and immersive sound in perfect harmony.”

A New Benchmark for Premium Cinema

The CINEMAGNUM installation represents more than just a size record; it signals a broader industry shift toward LED-based exhibition as the new standard for premium large-format (PLF) experiences. Unlike traditional projection systems, LED offers HDR (“High Dynamic Range”) images with superior brightness, contrast, and color accuracy—even in ambient-light conditions.

“This investment in the world’s largest cinema LED display – featuring unprecedented image resolution exceeding 8K – reflects our unwavering commitment to cinematic innovation,” said Mr. Weber, founder and president of CINECITTA’. “We are proud to partner with GDC Technology and ECCO Cine Supply & Service to deliver this extraordinary HDR visual and auditory experience to European audiences, embarking on a new era for motion picture exhibition.”

Rapid Market Adoption of Tricorne Premium LED

Beyond the CINEMAGNUM installation, GDC Technology and ECCO Cine Supply and Service GmbH, a leading cinema integrator in Germany, have formalized an exclusive reseller agreement for Tricorne Premium LED across the German speaking market. Within just six months of the debut of Tricorne Premium LED, installations and confirmed orders have already reached 25 units worldwide – including deployments at leading PLF venues.

“ECCO has been Europe’s pioneering service provider for installing and maintaining cinema LED since 2021,” said Thomas Rüttgers, founder of ECCO Cine Supply and Service. “When I first saw HDR cinema LED with micro-perforation that met Hollywood’s DCI Direct View HDR standard, I knew instantly that it would mark a decisive step forward in the history of cinema. With our many years of experience in the industry, the possibilities are endless – and we are proud to partner with GDC Technology in bringing this new generation of cinema to life.”

GDC Technology and Odeon Multicines Partner on Multi-Site Tricorne Premium LED Rollout in Spain

Odeon Multicines – Tricorne Premium LED Screen Installation, Spain

BARCELONA, Spain, June 23, 2026 — GDC Technology (GDC), a global leader in digital cinema solutions, today announced its expanded partnership with Odeon Multicines to roll out micro-perforated, acoustically transparent Tricorne Premium LED screens across the Spanish exhibitor’s premium circuit.

Following the landmark debut of Spain’s first installation at Odeon Multicines Sambil in Madrid, SPAIN, GDC will deploy a total of 10 HDR cinema LED screens across Odeon Multicines’ flagship multiplexes – including Gran Plaza 2, Illescas, and El Muelle, delivering world-class HDR visuals and immersive audio to audiences nationwide.

The Tricorne Premium LED screen sets itself apart from conventional cinema LED displays that require loudspeakers to be mounted around the screen’s perimeter. Tricorne’s micro-perforated design allows loudspeakers to be placed directly behind the display – so sound travels seamlessly through the screen itself. The result is natural sound localization without the acoustic trade-offs of non-perforated LED screens. With a 3.3mm pixel pitch, these floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall LED screens deliver breathtaking HDR imagery with pinpoint color accuracy. And with LED’s inherent brightness and contrast, 3D content reaches new levels of vividness and immersion – elevating everything from Hollywood blockbusters to special event cinema.

“The response to our acoustically transparent HDR cinema LED at Sambil has been nothing short of phenomenal – it’s clear that audiences are hungry for this level of immersion,” said Luis Millán, CEO and founder of Odeon Multicines. “Rolling this technology out across our circuit is a bold statement of our commitment to Spanish moviegoers. We’re not just upgrading screens – we’re redefining what a cinema experience should be.”

“Our industry has long been waiting for the immersive HDR cinema LED displays without compromising on audio quality,” said Dr. Man-Nang Chong, Founder and CEO of GDC Technology. “The arrival of this advanced, micro-perforated HDR cinema LED solution represents a true breakthrough in both visual and audio performance – making every seat in the cinema the sweet spot.”

Odeon Multicines Debuts Europe’s Largest HDR Cinema LED in Madrid

The new micro-perforated, acoustically transparent LED installation elevates the premium cinema experience at the company’s flagship location

Tricorne Premium LED auditorium, Odeon Multicines Sambil, Madrid, SPAIN

Barcelona, Spain, June 23, 2026 — GDC Technology Limited (“GDC”), a leading global provider of digital cinema solutions, in collaboration with Tricorne Premium LED, today announced Europe’s first and largest fully acoustically transparent HDR cinema LED at Odeon Multicines Sambil, Madrid.

The installation marks a significant milestone for cinema in Europe, unveiling a PLF cinema based on a large, micro-perforated, fully acoustically transparent HDR cinema LED for premium theatrical exhibition. Odeon Multicines’ flagship PLF cinema in Sambil, Madrid, was installed in December 2025 and has been screening multiple HDR titles in the past 6 months at the flagship Tricorne Premium LED screen. The project was delivered through close collaboration among GDC, Tricorne Premium LED, and Equipo de Cine, the local system integrator. Despite the installation’s scale and complexity, the complete system was delivered within a 30-day timeline by a four-person technical team.

“This installation marks a game-changing milestone for our premium cinema strategy,” said D. Luis C. Millán, CEO and owner of Odeon Multicines Sambil, Madrid, “By pairing HDR cinema LED with true acoustic transparency, we’re bringing European audiences something completely new – the visual brilliance of Direct View HDR, perfectly paired with the immersive sound of Dolby Atmos.”

Unlike conventional LED displays that require perimeter-mounted audio systems, the Tricorne Premium LED screen features a micro-perforated design that enables loudspeakers to be placed directly behind the display – allowing sound to pass cleanly through the screen surface. This preserves natural sound localization while eliminating the acoustic compromises of traditional non-perforated LED screens. The system supports all leading immersive audio formats, delivering sound performance commensurate with the scale and precision of the visuals.

With a 3.3mm pixel pitch, the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall LED screen measures 17 meters wide by 7 meters high on a curved frame, delivering HDR imagery that exceeds 4K resolution with precision color reproduction. The screen also supports direct-view 3D presentations, offering exceptional depth and clarity with ultra-low crosstalk. Leveraging LED’s inherent brightness and contrast, 3D content achieves heightened vividness and immersion, enhancing the experience for blockbuster features and event cinema.

“From an integration perspective, this project demonstrated that large-format acoustically transparent LED can be deployed efficiently without compromising performance,” said Juan García, CTO of Equipo de Cine. “The combination of modular design, precise alignment, and a certified playback ecosystem allowed us to meet both technical and operational targets within a very tight schedule.”

The installation also integrates GDC Cinema Automation CA2.0, which provides centralized control, scheduling, and automation of playback across auditoriums. CA2.0 supports automated feature and trailer playback, real-time monitoring, and scalable content management, enabling operators to efficiently manage thousands of titles across 12 auditoriums via live-streaming connections to the SCL-3000 Live-Streaming Library Server.

“This project is proof that LED cinema has come of age,” said Dr. Man-Nang Chong, Founder and CEO of GDC Technology. “A fully DCI-certified, acoustically transparent LED solution at this scale isn’t just a technical achievement – it’s a game-changer for exhibitors and audiences alike. The HDR visuals we’re delivering here simply cannot be achieved with conventional projection technology.”

HOYTS Partners with GDC Technology to Attain the Peak of Cinema

Australia’s first curved, acoustically transparent cinema LED screens set a new benchmark for a premium moviegoing experience

Melbourne, Australia, 22 June 2026 – HOYTS hosted an experience showcase debuting its new APEX cinema at HOYTS Melbourne Central, and HOYTS’ second APEX screen located at Karrinyup. Tricorne Premium LED screens form the visual centerpiece of APEX, HOYTS’ flagship premium cinema format, that integrates Dolby Atmos, premium seating, and purpose-designed lighting to deliver a unique and immersive movie experience.

HOYTS Cinemas, Australia’s leading cinema chain, used Tricorne Premium LED technology to push the boundaries of what is technologically achievable in a commercial cinema environment. The result was two of the largest and most technically advanced indoor cinema LED screens in the world.

A Historic First for Australasia

HOYTS APEX at Melbourne Central and Karrinyup are the exhibitors latest premium large format experience, utilizing Tricorne latest LED screen technology that incorporates micro-perforations within the screen to allow sound to pass directly through, delivering an immersive audio experience, combined with world leading HDR visual clarity and depth.

HOYTS Karrinyup boasts a 25 meters wide by 11 meters tall screen, powered by over 24 million pixels, and is currently the world’s largest cinema LED screen operating in a commercial multiplex. The HOYTS Melbourne Central screen, at 21 meters wide by 9 meters tall with over 17 million pixels, is equally without peer in Australia.

Chairman and CEO of GDC Technology, Dr Man Nang Chong highlighted “HOYTS APEX is powered by our latest micro-perforated, HDR (“High Dynamic Range) LED technology, delivering the most advanced big-screen experience available today.”

“It offers 30 times better picture contrast and millions more pixels than traditional cinema projection, creating a level of immersion and precision unlike anything Australian cinemagoers have experienced before.”

Engineering for the Demands of Premium Exhibition

Achieving screens of this scale required solving challenges that go beyond pixel count. Tricorne Premium LED’s ultra-thin panels are engineered to tile seamlessly across surfaces of this size without visible joints, while the curved geometry — a defining characteristic of APEX — demands precision manufacturing. The result is a screen surface that wraps the viewer’s field of vision and minimizes edge distortion, a perceptible difference at these dimensions.

Tricorne Premium LED screens deliver a HDR visual experience traditional projection systems cannot replicate. Deep blacks, high dynamic range, and DCI-P3 color accuracy combined with a 160° wide viewing angle ensure a consistent viewing experience from every seat in the auditorium.

The acoustic integration is perhaps the most technically consequential innovation. The micro-perforated panel design renders the entire screen surface acoustically transparent, allowing the speakers to be positioned directly behind the LED screen.

Damian Keogh, CEO and President of HOYTS Group, added “What sets APEX apart is its combination of a curved LED screen of spectacular scale, cutting-edge LED technology delivering true pixel perfection, and Dolby Atmos immersive sound, bringing every moment to life with remarkable clarity and depth.”

Broader Application

Beyond feature film presentations, the Tricorne Premium LED platform deployed within APEX is designed to support an extensive range of content formats. The display system’s native brightness, contrast, and resolution characteristics make it well-suited for live event broadcasting, alternative content programming, and emerging HDR and high-frame-rate delivery formats — providing HOYTS with a future-ready infrastructure.

For the cinema industry more broadly, HOYTS APEX provides a substantive, at-scale proof-of-concept for premium large-format LED as a viable and superior alternative to laser projection in premium-tier auditoriums.
